Food Lion trip

I'm a little bummed...I really thought I would make out great at Food Lion with the tripling this week. But unfortunately, all the coupons that I had that were able to triple were not on sale! But I did do ok...I saved more than I spent, which is now normal so I wanted to be extraordinary, but that didn't happen. The gentleman in front of me(yes,I said gentleman) had $65 in groceries and spent less than $3!! His wife went through earlier and she had around $70 in groceries and spent less than $5!! I was so envious!! But here is what I got.....

  • 3 Ziplock Freezer bags(different sizes)($1.89 each also got a $2 off catalina when checking out)

  • 1 Glad freezer bags($2.64)(I was kinda in need of freezer bags...could have done better if I waited for a sale)

  • 1 Huggies wipes refill($5.24)

  • 1 Hormel Compleats(FREE + overage of $0.25)

  • 1 Jimmy Dean breakfast entrees($0.25)

  • 1 Colgate kids toothpaste($0.24)

  • 3 Yoplait trix yogurt($1.49 each)(not on sale but kids have been begging for this)

  • 1 poptarts($0.35)

  • 1 Oscar Meyer Flatbread($0.25)

  • 1 Smithfield bacon($0.84)

I paid $25.20 and saved $30.46!! Everything I bought I used a coupon that could triple...I really wish I could have done better. Maybe after Sunday's paper, I'll be able to get a few more things free or really cheap. There wasn't a lot of people there but everyone that was there was flipping through their coupons just like me.

Interesting blog

I found something today that I had to repost. I don't usually post things for how to and stuff but this was awesome. Kristin, from Couponing to Disney, complied a list of companies that if you e-mail, they would send you coupons and free products. It's pretty awesome right?! Click here to check it out.

Anyways, I also bought 2 Super Mega packs of Huggies diapers(on sale for $16.99 each w/$4 off 2 coupon) and got a $5 giftcard. My total there was $32.07 and saved $11. I turned around and used that giftcard for my cookies and Dr. Pepper. That total was $4.16 and saved $16.50 and I still have $0.84 left on my giftcard. So in total I spent $32.07 and saved $27.50!!

Earth Fare

After reading a blog post on my cousin-in-law page http://whataprilsaves.blogspot.com/2009/10/five-free-items-pantry-makeover-from.html , I decided to raid my pantry and fridge to see what I had. I found a jar of JIF peanut butter that was literally empty( I don't even know why it was in the pantry, it was that empty!), a half empty bottle of Kraft Catalina dressing that was out of date in the fridge, a half drunken bottle of Sierra Mist that I got free yesterday at Food Lion that I didn't like too much, and a box of Publix cereal that I got as a penny item a while back. I took all these items to Earth Fare and got the Earth Fare brands FREE. They gave me a receipt for the items and my total savings was $11.02 so had I bought these items it would have cost me that much. But instead I get to try these items for free. How awesome?!! So, THANKS SO MUCH APRIL!!!

My day of savings

So yesterday was the grand opening of the new Food Lion very near my neighborhood. When I got the ad, I thought they were giving away free reusable grocery bags to the first 200 customers. What I didn't know is that those reusable grocery bags were filled with groceries. I got all the items in the picture above FREE..yes FREE, just for showing up. I didn't have to buy anything. They gave it to me when I walked in the door, no purchase nessary. How awesome is that?!!
So here is the picture of everything I walked out of the store with. They had their ground beef for $0.98lb and their whole chickens were advertised as $0.59lb. but when I was there I noticed that they goofed and were selling it at $0.49lb. Anyways, here is what I bought...
  • 2 boxes of Golden Grahams($0.49 each)
  • 2 boxes of Banana Nut Cheerios(FREE)
  • 2 bags of flaming hot cheetos($1.44 each)
  • 1 bag of Food Lion brand hotdog buns($0.13)
  • 1 bag of Food Lion brand hamburger buns($0.13)
  • 2 whole chickens @ $0.49lb($4.46 total)
  • 11.75lbs of ground beef @ $0.98lb($11.52 total)
  • 2 Food Lion brand ketchups($0.71 each)
  • 1 Heinz Ketchup 40 oz($1.99)
  • 1 bag of Kingsford charcoal($3.99)
  • 2 12-pack cokes($2.50 each)
  • 2 12-pack sprites($2.50 each)

I spent $39.04 and saved $55.04!! The savings is not including the FREE groceries that I recieved in the FREE reusable bag. I have no clue how much that stuff would have cost.

My trip at Bi-Lo got me some great savings as well. At Bi-Lo, they have a promotion going on that if you buy certain name brand products, you receive their products free. Also they have a promotion, if you buy 5 gallons of milk, you get one free and it doesn't have to be in one transaction. So here is what I got...

    1 Bi-Lo brand marshmallows(FREE)
  • 1 Dean's brand french onion dip($2)
    1 Bi-Lo brand french onion dip(FREE)
  • 1 Mentos Gum...not pictured, forgot($0.25)
  • 1 gal of milk($2.39)
  • 2 dozen large eggs($0.88 each)
  • 2 ballpark franks($1.49 each)
  • 1 Gwaltney bacon($0.99)
  • 2 bags of 2.5lbs chicken tenders($5.49 each)
  • 1 bundle of broccoli($0.88)
  • 1 head of lettuce($0.69)

My shopping week

I have to say that I have the BEST Pediatrician out there. I went to get Jacob's 9 month check up and let me just say...he's 19lbs 11oz, 29" long and his head circumference is 18"; back to what I was saying, I asked her for a coupole cans of formula, like I always do and she came out with this. Awesome right?!

At Publix, I bought 40 jars of Beech-Nut baby food(w/numerous coupons, $0.10 each), 2 Beech-Nut cereals(BOGOF peelie on box, making them $0.74 each), and (1) 13.5lb bag of Kingsford charcoal($1 off peelie and competitor coupon making it $3.99). I spent $10.20 and saved $24.99!!

At Food Lion, I bought 2 Oscar Meyer Bacon(BOGOF & w/coupon, making them $1.99 each), 1 Sara Lee sliced turkey breast(w/coupon, $1.69; I found this to be cheaper at Wal-Mart, there it's $3.98 so w/coupon, it makes it $0.98), 2 All detergent(BOGOF & w/coupons, making it $1.73 each), and 2 packs of country style pork ribs($0.88lb). I spent $23.44 and saved $34.15!!

At Wal-Mart, I bought 5 boxes Hamburger Helper(FREE), 2 boxes of Poptarts(FREE), 2 Glad ForceFlex trash bags(w/coupon $7.47 each), 2 Kid's Cuizine(w/coupon $1.38 each), 4 Tag Body Spray(w/BOGOF coupon making them $1.86 each), 1 Clorox 2(w/coupon $5.97), Glow worm(w/coupon $6.97), Tumble and Twist toy(w/coupon $14.96) and Hotwheels bike(not pictured..already being played with $4.27). I spent 62.86 and saved $30.02!!
I don't have pictures but I had a shopping trip at Target too. I bought 2 boxes Quaker bars, 1 travel Hungry Hippos, and 1 Gator Golf. Orginally, I spent $10.63 and saved $14.23 but when we got into the car, I noticed she scanned one of the coupons twice. It was a high value coupon. Michael was with me and he said that I should go back in and tell her. I didn't want to because she was the same lady that I had the problems with before. But Michael convinced me and I went back in and told her. I paid her the $4 and she said thanks. So in the end..I paid $14.63 and only saved $10.23. It's good karma...that's what I keep telling myself.
